Aston Martin DB12 Oil Change Guide

Overview

The DB12 uses a 680 PS version of the AMG M177 V8 — the highest-output application at launch. The oil service is a core ownership task that also serves as an inspection opportunity for the car's underbody, cooling, and brake condition.

• Lift or secure axle stands: The car must be safely and level supported.
• Socket, Torx, and trim-fastener tools: For underbody access panels and drain plug.
• Drain pan and clean funnels: Sized for the full oil capacity of the 680 PS M177.
• Torque wrench: For drain plug and filter housing to correct specification.

Consumables

• Approved engine oil: Exact specification for the 680 PS M177 as fitted to the DB12. Verify before purchasing.
• Oil filter: Confirm by VIN or part number.
• Drain plug seal: Replace at every service to prevent slow seepage.

Preparation

• Confirm the exact oil specification and quantity for the DB12.
• Gather all tools, consumables, and a clean drain pan.
• Raise and secure the car safely and level.

Access

• Remove underbody panels to expose the sump and filter area.
• Note any existing leaks, damage, or corrosion while the panels are off.

Drain and remove

• Position the drain pan and remove the drain plug carefully.
• Allow the oil to drain fully. Inspect the old oil for condition.
• Remove and inspect the old oil filter.

Install and refill

• Fit a new drain plug seal and torque to specification.
• Install the new oil filter, ensuring correct seal seating.
• Refill with the exact approved oil to the correct level.

Final checks

• Run the engine and check for leaks around the drain plug and filter.
• Recheck the oil level after settling and top up if needed.
• Refit underbody panels and reset any service indicator if applicable.
